Το Camp Pournara είναι το πρώτο από μια σειρά τεσσάρων ταινιών που εξερευνούν το καθεστώς κράτησης μεταναστών. Η ταινία πλοηγείται σε εδάφη σύγκρουσης, εχθρότητας, ταπείνωσης, φόβου και επιμονής στα οποία βαδίζουν ντόπιοι Ελληνοκύπριοι και Τουρκοκύπριοι, μετανάστες και οι Αρχές καθώς εκούσια ή ακούσια αλληλεπιδρούν μεταξύ τους. Η υλικότητα των συνόρων, οι ήχοι της καθημερινότητας, ο διάλογος γύρω από την πολιτική και το αίσθημα του ανήκειν σε παρελθόν και παρόν συνυφαίνονται στην ταινία αυτή, που επιχειρεί να διερευνήσει και να συστήσει εκ νέου την καθημερινή πραγματικότητα στον Καταυλισμό Πουρνάρα. Ένα εύστοχο σχόλιο για την πολυπλοκότητα της ευρωκυπριακής πολιτικής περί συνόρων, ετερότητας, ανάπτυξης και αμέλειας.

Camp Pournara is the first in a series of 4 films exploring the textures of Europe’s carceral migration regime. The film navigates the terrain of conflict, hostility, welcome, indignity, fear, and perseverance that local Greek- and Turkish-Cypriots, migrants, and authorities tread on a daily basis as they willingly and unwillingly interact with each other. Border materialities, the sounds of the quotidian, and discourses on politics and belonging, past and present, are woven together in the film to interrogate and reconstitute the everyday reality of Camp Pournara. The film is a subtle commentary on the intricacies of the Euro-Cypriot politics of bordering, otherness, development, and neglect.

Η ταινία Camps Vathy – Zervou καταγράφει αφηγήσεις ανθρώπων που ζούνε στη Σάμο (ακτιβιστών, αιτητών ασύλου, προσφύγων, κατοίκων) και την εμπειρία τους σε σχέση με την υποδοχή προσφύγων. Από τον Μάρτιο 2023 όταν ξεκίνησαν ταγυρίσματα, μέχρι τα πολυτάραχα χρόνια που προηγήθηκαν της έναρξης της νέας δομής, χωρητικότητας 8.000 ατόμων, πουσήμερα ονομάζεται «Πολυχώρος Υποδοχής και Κέντρο Ταυτοποίησης» στην περιοχή Ζερβού, η ταινία καταγράφει αφηγήματα κρατικής αμέλειας και ανθρώπινης φροντίδας μέσω των οποίων οι κάτοικοι της Σάμου προσδιορίζουν την προσέγγισή τους απέναντι στους πρόσφυγες.Συνδυάζοντας οπτικό υλικό από το προηγούμενο εγκαταλελειμμένο Κέντρο Υποδοχής και Ταυτοποίησης στο Βαθύ και από τη νέα δομή, καθώς και τους χώρους κοινωνικής αλληλεπίδρασης των μεταναστών και τόπους ταφής τους, η ταινία αντιπαραβάλλειτα ποιοτικότερα πρότυπα διαμονής τους με τις διάφορες μεθόδους διαχωρισμού, ρήξης και αποξένωσης που προτείνει η νέα προσέγγιση απέναντι στη μετανάστευση και στις υποδομές της.

Camps Vathy - Zervou documents some of the narratives of people living in Samos (activists, asylum-seekers, refugees, residents) and their experience of refugee reception over the years. Looking back from March 2023, when filming took place, to the turbulent years that preceded the opening of the new 8,000-capacity megastructure that is now the Multi-Purpose Reception and Identification Centre (MPRIC) in the area of Zervou, the film records the narratives of state neglect and humanitarian care through which Samos residents navigate their approaches to refugees. Interposing visuals from the previous, abandoned Reception and Identification Centre (RIC) in the town of Vathy with the new structure as well as migrant social spaces and places of burial, the film juxtaposes the provision of higher accommodation standards with the multiple separations, rifts, and estrangements the new approach to migration and its infrastructures are introducing.

Το Farming the Revolution μάς οδηγεί στον πυρήνα των μαζικών διαδηλώσεων διάρκειας ενός έτους που έλαβαν χώρα κατά της κυβέρνησης της Ινδίας, η οποία επέβαλε κατά το lockdown μια σειρά από νέουςαγροτικούς νόμους. Οι διαδηλώσεις μαρτυρούν την ψυχική ανθεκτικότητα και την αλληλεγγύη ανδρών και γυναικών, καθώς και τον πλουραλιστικό χαρακτήρα των λαϊκών κινημάτων στην Ινδία, ιδίως ενάντια στην κρατική προπαγάνδα. Έχοντας ως αίσιο τέλος μια σπάνια νίκη, το ντοκιμαντέρ σκιαγραφεί με τρόπο καθηλωτικό τη διαμαρτυρία ως συλλογική πράξη, στη μεγαλύτερη δυνατή κλίμακα.

 

Farming the Revolution takes us to the heart of the massive year-long protests against the Indian government’s then-newly enacted farm laws during the COVID lockdown. The protests were a testament to the resilience and solidarity of both men and women, and the pluralistic nature of grassroots movements in India, particularly in the face of propaganda produced by the State. Ending with a rare victory, this is a riveting portrait of committed protest on the largest scale.

Το 2018, η δίχρονη Mawda Shawri σκοτώνεται από τα πυρά της βελγικής αστυνομίας κατά τη διάρκεια μιας καταδίωξης σε αυτοκινητόδρομο. Το 2023, περισσότεροι από 40 άνθρωποι, ακτιβιστές με και χωρίς έγγραφα, μαζεύονται στις Βρυξέλλες για να κινηματογραφήσουν μια συλλογική ακρόαση εγγράφων από την υπόθεση της Mawda και τις αντιδράσεις για τη δολοφονία της. Μαζί, προσκομίζουν αντι-δικανικά τεκμήρια μιας τραγικής ιστορίας μετανάστευσης, κτίζοντας μια κοινωνική υποδομή φροντίδας, αλληλεγγύης και αγώνα.

 

In 2018, two-year-old Mawda Shawri, was shot dead by a Belgian police officer during a car chase. In 2023, more than 40 people, both undocumented and documented resident activists, assembled in Brussels to film a collective hearing of documents from Mawda’s case and reactions to her killing. Together, these produce counter-forensic evidence of this deadly tale of migration, and build a lived social infrastructure of care, solidarity and struggle.

Καθώς οι εντάσεις με τους κατοίκους αυξάνονται, η σκηνοθέτρια Τζέλη Χατζηδημητρίου –που βρέθηκε στη μέση ως ντόπια και ως λεσβία– αφηγείται μια ιστορία 40 και πλέον χρόνων για την αγάπη, την κοινότητα, τις συγκρούσεις, αλλά και για το τι σημαίνει να αισθάνεται κανείς αποδεκτός.

 

Since the 1970s, lesbians from around the world would flock to a small village on the Greek island of Lesvos. As tensions between the newly-arrived lesbians and local residents rose, Tzeli Hadjidimitriou –caught in the middle as a local and lesbian herself– chronicled 40+ years of love, community, conflict, and what it means to feel accepted.

Στόχος μας είναι η δημιουργία χώρου για τις πολυκοινοτικές εμπειρίες και εκφράσεις των

κουήρ γυναικών του νησιού και η παρουσίαση του καλλιτεχνικού και ακτιβιστικού τους

έργου. Διοργανώνεται από τις Νταϊάνα Γεωργίου, Ναταλία Δαμίγου-Παπώτη και Μιχάλη

Ιντζιέγιαννη.

Αγαπιούνται; H Νότα και ο Ηλίας είναι ένα ηλικιωμένο ζευγάρι που ζει σε διαφορετικούς κόσμους. Το μόνο κοινό σε αυτούς τους κόσμους είναι η αργή και δύσκολη αποσύνθεση του μυαλού και του σώματος.

 

There were moments when I closed the door and my mind was flooded with questions. One of them was strong enough to turn on the camera. Do they love each other? Nota and Ilias are an elderly couple living in different worlds. The only common thing in these worlds is the slow and difficult decaying of the mind and body.

Obsessed with Light is a meditation on light and the enduring obsession to create. The film pulls back the curtain on Loïe Fuller, a wildly original performer who revolutionized the visual culture of the early 20th century. Creating a dialogue between the past and the present, the documentary delves into the astonishing influence Fuller’s work has on contemporary culture.

When the residents of a remote Siberian city discover an old Soviet mine has caught fire beneath their neighborhood, they turn to Natalia Zubkova, a local homemaker-turned-journalist, for help. On a small farm in the Norwegian forest, the Payne family seeks a wild and free existence. They practice home-schooling and strive for a closely-knit family dynamic in harmony with nature. Μαζί με χιλιάδες άλλα, τα αρχαιολογικά αυτά ευρήματα λεηλατήθηκαν από τα γαλλικά αποικιακά στρατεύματα το 1892. Ποια στάση, όμως, να υιοθετήσει κανείς απέναντι στην επιστροφή των προγόνων σε μια χώρα που αναγκάστηκε να προχωρήσει αποφασιστικά, εν τη απουσία τους; Αν και η ψυχή των ευρημάτων έχει ελευθερωθεί, το ζήτημα γίνεται αντικείμενο έντονης αντιπαράθεσης ανάμεσα σε φοιτητές του Πανεπιστημίου της Αμπομέι Καλαβί στο Μπενίν.

 

November, 2021. Twenty-six royal treasures of the Kingdom of Dahomey are about to leave Paris to return to their country of origin, the present-day Republic of Benin. Along with thousands of others, these artifacts were plundered by French colonial troops in 1892. But what attitude to adopt to these ancestors’ homecoming in a country that had to forge ahead in their absence? While the soul of the artifacts is freed, debate rages among students of the University of Abomey-Calavi.

The newest film by multimedia artist and filmmaker Johan Grimonprez is an engrossing essay-film that examines how jazz and geopolitics collide in a nefarious chapter of Cold War history: the murder of Patrice Lumumba.
